IRVINE'S SHIPBUILDING & DRY DOCKS Co. Ltd. (1898-1930)

Mainly repair work was carried out at this Hartlepool yard until 1870. In the early 1880s the yard started building colliers and small tramps. In 1896 Christopher Furness of Furness, Withy and Co. gained control of the yard and it was renamed Irvine's Shipbuilding and Dry Docks. During WWI the yard had a number of orders for various Furness companies. It then made three "Flower" class sloops and six motorised barges along with eight standard "C" type tramps. In 1924 the yard closed due to scarcity of orders.
