Lettens Jan10/09/2011On 8 August 1940, Convoy CW-9 was attacked and torpedoed, off Newhaven by a German schnellboot Flottille consisting of S-20, S-21, S-25 and S-27.

The British cargo SS Holme Force (1.216 tons) was sunk by the S-21 (Mirbach), cargo SS Ouse (1.004 tons) by collision when avoiding a torpedo from S-20 (Büchting) and British cargo MV Fife Coast (367 tons) by S-27 (Klug).

Polly M. (380 tons) and John M. (500 tons) were attacked by S-25 but stayed afloat.

Allen Tony26/06/2007Holme Force SS, steamship torpedoed by E-boat, 8 miles from Newhaven, Susssex. She was carrying a cargo of coke from Tyne to Devonport. Carried a crew of 13 plus 4 gunners. 6 dead including master.

The Goole Shipbuilding and Repairing Co. was founded by the Craggs family in 1901 and was based on the Dutch River at Goole in Yorkshire, England. - - The yard had a towering reputation for building coasters, tugs and trawlers for the Hull and Grimsby fishing fleets. - - The yard's name was changed to Goole Shipbuilders in 1982, coasters, oil rig supply vessels and a coastal tanker were the last ships built under the Goole name. The yard closed on 27th April 1984.
