Lettens Jan10/09/2011On 8 August 1940, Convoy CW-9 was attacked and torpedoed, off Newhaven by a German schnellboot Flottille consisting of S-20, S-21, S-25 and S-27.

The British cargo SS Holme Force (1.216 tons) was sunk by the S-21 (Mirbach), cargo SS Ouse (1.004 tons) by collision when avoiding a torpedo from S-20 (Büchting) and British cargo MV Fife Coast (367 tons) by S-27 (Klug).

Polly M. (380 tons) and John M. (500 tons) were attacked by S-25 but stayed afloat.
