Allen Tony28/02/2009The steamship Matra SS, Capt. J. F. Butterworth, was mined and sunk in the Thames Estuary one mile E. of the Tongue lightship on November 13th, 1939. Sixteen Indian seamen were killed.

In 1968, Brocklebank pooled its ships with Cunard in the company Cunard-Brocklebank Ltd.
