Ltd., Newcastle; Yard No 158; Launch Date 09/09/1911; Corrugated design, ships sides had several longitudinal corrugations, a patent design of the period; Main owner Jenkins Richards E; In 1920 renamed MAINDY HILL; Owners at time of loss were Admiralty coal agents; Tramp steamer making regular trips abroad.

Racey Carl23/02/2011On March 9 1940, the MAINDY HILL was heading south, with a cargo of coal from Methil bound for Bayonne, SW France, the vessel was in collision with ST. ROSARIO 4 1/2 miles off Heugh Lighthouse, Tees Bay, Hartlepool. The vessels were crossing courses. There was contact between the stem of ST. ROSARIO & the port side of MAINDY HILL, which sank as a result of the encounter. 23 MAINDY HILL crew members, one of them injured, were landed the next day at Hartlepool Dock Head.

 North Eastern Marine Engineers Ltd., Sunderland
North Eastern Marine Engineering Co of South Docks, Sunderland was formed in 1860. Engine builders in Sunderland and Wallsend, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. By 1889 the company's works at Sunderland and Wallsend have supplied 100 vessels afloat with their triples fitted. In 1925 sees the Application of Superheated Steam to Marine Engines at both Wallsend and Sunderland. Also now manufacturing marine engines, turbines, marine oil engines, boilers, condensers, feed and ballast pumps, evaporators, feed-water cleaners and heaters, circulating pumps etc. In 1938 became North Eastern Marine Engineers Co. (1938) Ltd., Sunderland.
