Allen Tony20/08/2008Turakina SS was a New Zealand Cargo Steamer of 11,670 tons built in 1923 by William Hamilton & Co Port Glasgow, Yard No 322 for the New Zealand Shipping Company, Plymouth. She was powered by a steam turbine reduction geared giving 13 knots.

On the 20th August 1940 she was sunk in the Tasman Sea by German Raider 36 (ORION) after a running fight lasting two and a half hours while bound Sydney and Wellington.
