Allen Tony20/03/2008Parthenia SS was a British Cargo Steamer of 4,872 tons built in 1917 by Russell & Co, Port Glasgow for James R Cuthbertson (Kirkholm S.S. Co) Glasgow as the SS KIRKHOLM. In 1918 she was purchased by the Donaldson Line, Glasgow and later renamed PARTHENIA in 1919. On the 29th November 1940 she was nearing the end of her voyage to Glasgow from Montreal with general cargo, when she was in collision with the ROBERT F.

HAND about seven miles SW of Sanda Light Vessel, Firth of Clyde and sank.

Lockett Graham17/03/2013The cargo included nickel, steel and zinc. Risdon Beazley Ltd later rcovered 35 tons of nickel and a little zinc, they must have left some behind as further salvage operations were carried out in 1987.
