Skjold, built by Russell & Co., Port Glasgow in 1891 and owned at the time of her loss by A/S Skjold (O. Gotaas), Kristiania, was a Norwegian steel barque of 1.592 tons; 1497 nrt; 250.2 x 38.2 x 21.6;

On April 21st, 1917, Skjold, on a voyage from New York to Glasgow with a cargo of oil and grease in drums, was sunk by gunfire by the German submarine U-61 (Victor Dieckmann), WNW from Fastnet. There were no casualties.
