Allen Tony09/05/2008Jamaica Pioneer SS was a Refrigerated British Cargo Steamer of 5,349 tons built in 1931 by Lithgows, Port Glasgow for the Jamaica Banana Producers SS Co. (Kaye Son & Co.) London. She was powered by a steam quadruple expansion engine. Engines by David Rowan & Co. On the 25th August 1940 when on route from KINGSTON (JA) for AVONMOUTH carrying a cargo of 1,900 tons of bananas she was torpedoed by German submarine U-100 and sunk in the Atlantic, NW of Ireland.
