  History

Allen Tony24/04/2009The motor vessel Cabo San Antonio MV was on a voyage from Buenos Aires to Genoa with passengers and general cargo when, on December 29th, 1939, some 400 miles from Conakry, fire broke out in the galley and quickly spread through the vessel. The fire could not be controlled and passengers and crew were taken off by a French vessel, except for five passengers reported missing. On the 31st, the Cabo San Antonio was shelled and sunk by a French destroyer, as she was a danger to navigation.

About Owners

Ybarra & Co., Sevilla

Created by José Maria de Ybarra (Seville) and Gutiérrez de Caviedes (Bilbao) to develop the traffic between the two provinces. Took its present name in 1885, and began to give his ship's names of capes (Cabo). Strong in cabotage, could not be maintained permanently in the Atlantiolines except south. After the end of the transatlantic passenger traffic, was a pioneer in cruises to Antarctica, but did not quickly adapted to container traffic. Today is only a trade mark of the German company that bought it.
