The German steamship Bavaria SS was built in 1888 by Duncan, Port Glasgow, England as the RIVER MERSEY SS for SS River Mersey Ltd (J.Little), Glasgow. In 1900 she was renamed BAVARIA SS when acquired by W. Kunstmann.

She left Oxelosund on March 14th, 1915, for Stettin with a cargo of ore. She was assumed to have been lost with all hands during a violent snowstorm or mined NW Stolpe Bank.
