Construit au USA, en 1920 sous le nom de SISLADOBSIS, il naviguera d'abord sous celui de AMERICAN MERCHANT pour l' American Merchant Lines. Vendu en 1940 en Belgique, il est torpillé par le sous-marin U 52. Il y aura 25 victimes (5 tués et 20 disparus) ; un des navires de la Société Maritime Anversoise qui avait été formée en 1940 avec des navires américains pour contourner le “Neutrality Act”,

S/S VILLE DE NAMUR, built for Société Maritime Anversoise in 1921 by the American International Shipbuilding Corp. weighted 7.463 tons and measured 436.9x58.2x35.9ft. With her turbine engines, she had a nominal horsepower of 1.290 nhp.

Convoy: Route: New York - Bordeaux - Liverpool Cargo: Horses History: Laid down as Sisladobsis, completed as Aisne. 1924 renamed American Merchant for US Lines Co, New York. In February 1940 sold to Belgium and renamed Ville de Namur. Notes on loss: At 20.05 hours on 19 Jun, 1940, the unescorted Ville de Namur (Master J. Grymonprez) was hit by two torpedoes from U-52 and sank within 5 minutes west of La Rochelle. The German commander suspected that the ship carried weapons behind large wooden structures on deck, but these were stables for horses.

Ville de Namur was a Belgian cargo steamer of 7463 tons and built in 1920. She was formerly called AMERICAN MERCHANT until 1940. On the 19th June 194 when on route from NEW YORK for BORDEAUX carrying a cargo of horses she was torpedoed by U-52 and sunk. 25 crew lost from a total of 79.
