Claes Johnny25/03/2008At 05.40 hours on 25 Mar, 1940, the Britta was hit in the forepart by one torpedo from U-47 and sank slowly about 55 miles north of Sule Skerry. The ship had been spotted at 04.30 hours and missed by a first torpedo at 05.19 hours. The survivors were rescued by the Danish steam merchant Nancy of the same company that sailed together with the ship.

Allen Tony26/06/2007Britta was a Danish cargo steamer of 1,146 tons and built in 1921. On the 25th March 1940 when on route from KALUNBORG for LIVERPOOL in ballast she was torpedoed by U-47 and sunk. 13 crew missing from a total crew 18.
