Allen Tony01/06/2011Merkur SS was a Estonian Cargo steamer of 1259 tons and built in 1913 by Vuijk & Zonen for N.V.Houtvaart (Vinke), Rotterdam as the YSSEL SS. In 1936 she was renamed MERKUR SS when purchased by Estonian owner J. Rang.

On the 30th June 1940 when on route from LISBON for ACTON GRANGE carrying a vargo of pit props she was torpedoed by German submarine U-26 and sunk. 4 crew were lost.
