Allen Tony19/03/2008Har Zion was a British cargo steamer of 2,508 tons built in 1907 by Burmeister & Wain´s Maskin & Skibsbyggeri A/S, Copenhagen for Palestine Maritime Lloyd Ltd, Tel Aviv, Palestine. Built as St. Jan, 1913 renamed Nickerie, 1932 renamed Risveglio, 1935 renamed Har Zion

On the 31st August 1940 She was on route from LIVERPOOL for SAVANNAH, FEORGIA in Convoy OB-205 as a straggler and carrying a cargo of 1,000 cases of spirits and 120 tons of fertiliser she was torpedoed by German submarine U-38 and sunk. 36 crew lost. 1 crew survived.
