LOIS JOHNSON 06/09/10 react [0] ship wreck survivor | react I was 7 months old when my parents and I were aboard the SS Harvard when it sunk off Port Argello in 1931. We were picked up by a Navy ship the Louisviile. I wish I could remember it all.I still have some memorabilia. I must be the only survivor, as I was the youngest person on the ship. |

Chip Mogensen 22/04/10 react [0] 2nd Mate Induna | react I was second mate on the Induna if I remember correctly in 1974, or 1975. I enjoyed sailing in the old ship, we were sailing between Durban and Cape Town sometimes calling in PE and East London.
I remember the Cheif Mate first name was Lionel and I believe he was the master when the Induna sank. I also heard that she had taken on a load of iron ore that was stowed in the t'ween decks, and that this was reason she capsized. I was also told that the second officer was a yachtsman from NZ sailing with Rennies to make some money to continue his travels, and later sued the company for a large sum of money.
Are any of these facts true, and if so do you know what has happened to the NZ Mate and the law suit.
I also sailed in the Ifafa and Jolanda with Rennies, and the Berea with Durban Lines/Unicorn. I would be interest to learn of any news of these vessels and in particular one Unicorn Cheif Mate from the Berea who saild as relief captain from Biera to Durban where he was held responsible for the vessel being taken out of service and scrapped after we nearly lost the vessel on a return voyage to Durban in 1975; his name is Jan Bye (my sp of the last name may be incorrect, he was from Holland).
Thank you for your time, I am looking forward to hearing from you, and I really have enjoyed finding some news of the Induna.
Cheers,
Chip Mogensen Skype: zanadu4 e-mail: zanadu2@aol.com |

Gerald F. Merna 30/07/09 react [0] LST-577 | react Thank you for this most interesting and informative website, and the mention of LST-577 I received as a result of my standing Google Search for this ship. My brother, George Charles Merna, Signalman Second Class, U.S> Navy, was on board that ship (as a Plankowner) when it was sunk on 11Feb45 and thus killed in action at the age of 19. I am adding your site's information to my record of George's Service. Should further info evr become available, please include my in such information. Sincerely, Gerald F. Merna, 1stLt US Marine Corps (Retired) |

Beste Frans,

Allen Tony 17/08/07 react [0] Well done Jan on a Great Website | react Hi Jan,
An absolutely fantastic piece of work. I am well impressed by your dedication to making such a marvellous site for those interested in wreck history to use.
It must have taken ages to come up with the final idea?
Once again, many thanks.

admin 16/08/07 react [0] Well, somebody has to start the guestbook.. | react
After 7 years, it was time to re-design the Wrecksite... It is completely different now from what it used to be.. Some main differences with the old version are: (1) users can now directly update the wrecksite (2) there is much more interaction between users possible. (3) users have to subscribe. (4) a lot more delegation of the o' wrecksite's admin work ...
Best Regards,
Jan
